Summary

GIS is operation concerned with large-scale maps and depend on large financial resources, which are produced by governments, administrative departments and municipalities, as the main objective of them is to support politicians and administrators to make balanced decisions regarding natural and human resources. It can also be used in scientific research and development plans.
Technically, it is defined as a computer system for collecting, managing, processing and analyzing information of a spatial nature that describes geographical features on the surface of the earth, whether these features are natural such as forests and rivers, or artificial such as buildings, roads, bridges, dams, or even natural and environmental phenomena such as tides, pollution, desertification and others.
The use of GIS is not limited to large areas, because it can be used in the study of a neighborhood in which the geographical features consist of a small number of houses and the telephone, electricity and water networks, or in one company where the computer network is one of its features.

  • Coordinate systems and projection systems used (Projection & Coordinates System).
  • How to build layers, organize, create and edit geographic data to maintain its accuracy and link it to its metadata (Attribute).
  • Display spatial information.
  • Search and query geographic information system databases.
  • Modifying spatial and descriptive data.
  • Linking and building table relationships with maps.
  • Create maps, reports and graphs.
  • Geometric correction on maps and aerial or satellite images (georeferencing).
  • Manage, encode, and classify map layers to support visual representation and data exploration (Symbolization & Labeling).
  • Methods of retrieving and querying data (Selection).
  • Design and layout of attractive pages for maps to be printed (Layout Maps).

  • Start using some commands, starting with opening a new project, creating a slide or several blank slides, and then dealing with the numbering within them.
